We are thrilled to have Group Chief Executive Officer,  Metcash Ltd, Doug Jones as our guest Network Speaker who will be discussing “Independent Retail in Australia – A National Treasure”.  Metcash (ASX: MTS) is Australia’s leading wholesale distribution and marketing company with sales of over $17 billion in FY22.

Doug is an experienced executive with extensive wholesale, retail and eCommerce experience. Doug spent 14 years with the Johannesburg Stock Exchange-listed Massmart group which is majority-owned by Walmart Inc. It has leading market positions in wholesale food, liquor, home improvement and general merchandise.  Before joining Metcash Doug was CEO and Senior Vice President of Massmart Wholesale in South Africa, and CEO of Makro SA, the leading multi-customer, multi-channel club discounter.   Doug is a qualified Chartered Accountant and has previously held senior finance positions in Makro SA, Amalgamated Beverages Industries Limited and The South African Breweries, all in Johannesburg, CocaCola Enterprises in Canada, and Deloitte in both Canada and South Africa.  He’s also a keen amateur athlete, having completed numerous ultra-marathons and a few Ironmans, together with a few hours on the bike, mostly in support of charities close to his heart. He’s a keen but very occasional golfer, with aspirations to play more in the future!

We will supporting a South African Charity that is close to Doug’s heart called ‘The Cows’. The Cows are a group of people on a mission to make a difference to children with cancer and their families, one paddock at a time. Armed with the slogan “Love Living Life”, they use individual lifestyle goals to raise money for CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation SA.
